Helen previously ran a natural body care business, but after a few years away found herself yearning to return to a creative career. She began a sustainable floristry business, working with locally grown flowers, herbs and grasses, and soon realised that the two businesses didn’t sit separately – they were one and the same. Growing the plants, harvesting and drying them, making products and creating with them all came together.
Having taught workshops for around ten years, including soap and natural body care, wreath making and botanical crafts, Helen’s long-term vision is to create a beautiful, productive garden where people can see where the materials they are working with begin. She wants to grow herbs, flowers, foliage and natural dye plants using organic and regenerative growing principles, including companion planting and creating habitat for wildlife.
Based in or near Stroud, Helen is looking for around an acre with water, good road access and ideally electricity. Permission for a polytunnel and permanent planting, including hedging for foliage, would be important. Ideally there would be a building for workshops, drying and storage, or the possibility of adding a suitable structure. Helen plans to sell locally grown flowers, herbs and plants, supply local retailers, develop flower subscriptions and sell specialist dye plants and materials online. The land would also become the heart of her workshops – somewhere people can learn about the plants, make something from what is grown there and reconnect with nature and traditional plant skills.
This opportunity would suit a landowner interested in diversification, regenerative land management and bringing carefully managed community activity onto their land.
