Local Food Growing Project in Greater Manchester

Local Food Growing Project in Greater Manchester

The Ceebee Gold Foundation is a charity in Greater Manchester working to provide for people dealing with food insecurity and poverty. Their team currently runs a food bank, along with other activities to support mental health, wellbeing and life skills.

Bola, the lead contact for the foundation, comes from a farming family in Nigeria and is interested in applying her food-growing skills to the UK context to provide for the people she serves.

The foundation aims to find land that will enable food growing to provide for the local community and support the longevity of its food bank.

Their main aim is to grow produce that can suit people’s needs and provide food at an affordable rate. The foundation is adaptable to the capabilities and restrictions of the land they find, although the long-term goal would be to create a food production forest project, combining fruit tree planting with sustainable food growing.

It is important to the foundation that the site is accessible, ideally with some public transport links. Work on the land will be supported by both paid staff and volunteers, of whom many have experience growing food themselves.

As a registered charity, the Ceebee Gold Foundation already has an incorporated structure that would allow it to take on and steward the land with community need in mind. They have good experience working with and responding to needs within Greater Manchester, recruiting and nurturing volunteers, and working adaptively.

Bola is confident that she and her team are ready to build a sustainable food-growing project that will ultimately support food security in the long term.
