Land Sought for Sustainable, High-Welfare Poultry Enterprise (near Newcastle)

Mike and Esther are hoping to build a sustainable family-run poultry farming enterprise near their home in Newcastle, primarily working with laying hens. Mike has over 20 years of experience managing and working in poultry farms and holds a degree in Animal Science. The family have now relocated to the UK from Nigeria, and is looking for the right land opportunity and the necessary support to build a successful farm business in the North East.

Mike previously worked as a farm manager in Nigeria, overseeing large-scale poultry operations, and has a wealth of experience in bird welfare, feeding programmes, biosecurity, staff supervision, and production management. Esther also came from a poultry-farming family and has valuable experience to bring to their new enterprise. The pair have now started developing their business plan to suit the UK context, and Mike is currently undertaking a Diploma in poultry farming with John Academy to familiarise himself with UK systems, standards, and regulations.

Esther and Mike are looking for 1-5 hectares of land which could initially house around 1000 birds, with a focus on laying hens. Some existing infrastructure would be ideal, including a poultry shed and storage facility. They are open to looking at any land that feels appropriate for an enterprise of this size, but would ideally want to consider the potential to expand.

The family are seeking a supportive relationship with a landowner who could potentially work closely with them in the first stages while establishing the business in a UK context. As the business grows, they’d love to work with a landowner who would consider leasing the land in the longer-term, allowing the family to utilise their skills and reach their business potential in the long-run. Esther and Mike are open to working in line with a landowner’s mission and values, and would be interested in operating with an organic system.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a landowner to explore a joint venture and welcome specialist expertise onto their land, whilst at the same time providing potential for a rewarding relationship to introduce a skilled farming family to the UK context.
