Gardener Seeking Land to Grow a Community-Focused, Sustainable Plant Nursery

Gardener Seeking Land to Grow a Community-Focused, Sustainable Plant Nursery

Staci is looking for 1-2 acres of land to scale up her existing garden nursery and sell to the public. The nursery grows organically, without the use of pesticides or chemicals, and Staci grows her plant stock solely from seed or cuttings from existing plants.

Staci is keen for her customers to experience the joy of a living garden, and plans to focus the nursery on a showcase of ornamental perennial and annual plants, herbs and fruits in the ground, also proving their hardiness within the Derbyshire climate. In addition to the main garden, she also intends to use a large greenhouse for propagation and a potting shed, both of which are capable of being temporary or semi-permanent structures. To provide for customer need, Staci intends to have a payment area, as well as a smaller enclosed garden area where community growing workshops, wellbeing activities and a tea and coffee station could be held.

Staci is based on the edge of Chesterfield, on the doorstep to the Peak District, where she currently grows all her stock at home. Within a small space, almost 3,000 plants have been produced in the Spring/Summer 2026 season, and she has attended two successful plant fairs in June with more plans to showcase her stall upcoming. The nursery has already started to generate a customer base, and there is growing demand for customers to be able to visit the nursery on a day-to-day basis should Staci find the right site.

Staci has been a passionate gardener for a decade, and has developed herself through work, professional training, volunteering, and gardening at home. Staci was previously working as an estate gardener, but made the decision to transition into working on her nursery business full-time in March 2026. In her previous role, she undertook transformation gardening through large-scale growing and planting projects at a private 50-acre estate in Nottingham. She also has experience working in the education sector, and integrated her passion for gardening in a previous role at a school, where she transformed an old garden bed and helped to launch the school gardening club, teaching children to grow from seed, plant, and care for what they’ve grown. Staci holds a Level 2 in RHS Practical Horticulture, as well as Level 2 RHS Principles of Plant Growth and Development.

Staci is looking for land close to Chesterfield, Matlock or Bakewell. It should be a relatively accessible location for the public, and have enough sun for the garden and nursery plants to grow. Ideally, the land would be an enclosed space, with either walls or hedging as security. Staci needs to be able to keep stock safely on site, so there must be a possibility to house and secure growing plants. A water source is essential, and electricity would be a bonus.

If you are a landowner nearby who would support this growing nursery business, centred around locally and sustainably grown plants and holistic ways of growing, please get in touch via the enquiry form.

“The journey I have been on with my small garden nursery business over this past six months, and in particular the past three months, has been nothing short of amazing. I’m completely overwhelmed by the amount of support I’ve received from customers, who are so invested in my story, my little nursery, and the future plans I have for it. Leaving my full-time role at the estate garden was the biggest leap of faith I’ve ever taken, but it has turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I’m now wholly invested in my garden nursery business, giving it my full attention and time.

I’m extremely passionate about bringing affordable, Derbyshire-grown plants into people’s gardens, and educating people on the principles and practices of organic and sustainable growing and gardening. I also want to help people understand the importance of biodiversity and how the very small things that we do, collectively, have a huge and positive impact on our ever-changing climate and the environment.

I really want the nursery to be a special place within the community, that has a feeling of love and welcome when people visit, that positively affects their mental health as they wander through the garden or maybe sit and learn something at a workshop, or come and help and volunteer on the nursery. The feeling I’m left with whenever we have successfully held a plant fair is that there really is a demand for this type of space to be available within the community, particularly at a time when the world feels so uncertain.

In time as the Nursery progresses, I would like to be able to offer work placements and/or employment to horticultural students and those that have the passion for growing organically and sustainably.”
