Experienced Growers Seeking Land Near Sheffield
Experienced Growers Seeking Land Near Sheffield
Bethan and Joe are looking for 1.5–10 acres of land near Sheffield to expand their growing business. They currently work on 1/3 acre, growing vegetables and flowers for cafes, restaurants and grocers, alongside dye flowers, which they sell through local markets.
They are looking for a site where they can expand their existing enterprise and create a lively new site that could eventually welcome the community onto it, potentially in collaboration with other enterprises. With enough land, they would share a site with others to benefit from the support and community other growing enterprises could offer, as well as sharing infrastructure costs. They have been searching for the right site for several years and are determined to find a place where they can establish themselves and grow their business for the long term.
Their ideal site would have fertile soil, access to water and space for polytunnels to grow under cover. They are flexible about installing the infrastructure they need over time, with the landowner’s support, although existing infrastructure or storage would be a bonus.
There is clear potential to expand their existing sales, with strong demand for locally grown vegetables and flowers. Their dye flowers have also filled a gap in the market for craftspeople and creatives in Sheffield. They see opportunities to develop their workshop offering and teach others to grow at a new site. They have already built a strong network of people interested in ecologically and locally grown produce, and see growing demand for what they do.
Joe also works with Sheffield Coppice Workers, where he works with a team to manage woodland and lay hedges. An existing woodland, or the potential to establish or manage woodland, would be a huge bonus for him. In time, there could be opportunities to involve other coppicers and craftspeople in managing the woodland, using timber and creating added value through crafts and workshops.
This is an opportunity to support two talented and committed growers who are ready to expand and make a long-term success of a new site. Bethan and Joe have great skills in organic growing, management of an existing site, marketing and sales, alongside their strong local networks. They have the experience, commitment and demand to grow their business, but now need the right land to make it possible.
