Experienced Flower Growers Seeking Land Near Leeds

Experienced Flower Growers Seeking Land Near Leeds

Philippa and her partner Jamie are looking for a site near Leeds to establish a flower-growing business. With a wealth of growing and floristry experience, the pair have spotted a gap in the West Yorkshire market to supply florists, weddings and events, and direct customers with UK-Grown flowers. The pair are looking for an opportunity that will allow them to work on the land, grow what they love, as well as run a successful and viable business.

Philippa is a florist and gardener, currently working part-time in a florist in Leeds while also growing on a self-employed basis. Philippa is passionate about flowers and has experience supplying events such as weddings, as well as educating through her work. She hopes her new enterprise will provide opportunities to educate others about the seasonality of flowers, how to grow them, and why more flowers can and should be grown in the UK.

Jamie is an experienced grower with over 10 years of experience, having worked 5-6 growing seasons on market gardens up and down the country. Jamie is interested in many different aspects of land management, and is currently studying for a PhD in regenerative agriculture. He is looking at hydrology and is keen to develop practical skills in managing land to keep more water when it’s needed, and manage floods naturally when it’s not. He has good knowledge of drought-resilient plants, river and wetland restoration, and would be interested in helping with other areas around a farm, should this be of interest to the landowner.

The couple are looking for a site of a maximum of one acre, but would be open to larger opportunities that could host a wildflower meadow to add to their business model. Ideally, they would look for a site with water, a greenhouse or polytunnel for seedlings, and some shelter from the wind; however, the pair are confident they have the skills to install rainwater storage and other necessary infrastructure.

They would like to work alongside a landowner open to welcoming people onto the land, as they see their business thriving with the addition of workshops, a pick-your-own offering, or other educational opportunities.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a landowner to welcome a couple experienced in managing a small plot productively, who also share an interest in growing regeneratively and supplying more British, locally grown flowers to West Yorkshire.
