Establishing a Community-Led Small-Scale Farm for Food Production

Establishing a Community-Led Small-Scale Farm for Food Production

Diane from One Kingdom One People CIC is looking for land to establish a diversified small‑scale agricultural business combining mixed horticulture with livestock farming, specifically pigs and chickens. Her ultimate aim is to build a sustainable, locally focused enterprise that supplies fresh produce, eggs, and pork products to the community.

Diane has a farming background in vegetable growing and poultry keeping, and is looking for a site suitable for growing a variety of seasonal fruit and vegetables, integrating some feasible crops originating from West Africa. She would also intend to raise pigs and chickens on a small scale to support a circular system on the land.

The site would require reliable access to water, access for transporting feed, tools, and produce, and existing or potential basic livestock infrastructure.

One Kingdom One People CIC supports communities in Rochdale with learning disabilities and provides opportunities to grow life skills. They focus on providing cultural education and kickstarting businesses in the local community. The prospective site would be cooperatively run, putting the community that the CIC serve at the centre. There would be a clear focus on providing opportunities to help with the cost of living, and revenue from food production would be reinvested to support the CIC’s activities.

Diane’s goal is to create a well‑managed, sustainable site that contributes positively to the local food system while allowing the business to grow steadily and responsibly to serve the community.
