Meet brothers Nathan and Austin, they are looking for 30-50 acres to start their calf at foot dairy. Nathan is a herdsman by trade and currently works on a beef and dairy farm with 300 milking cows, calving all year round. He has a passion for livestock and has in the past worked five years on a SEND provision and educational farm with almost every farm animal there is. Austin has skills in IT and is catching up on his farm education through a range of courses, learning about cattle, herbal leys, land management and maintaining a small holding.

The brothers would ideally like to farm a herd for milk, they are interested in a dual purpose breed and would sell beef in addition to dairy products. However, their business plan is flexible and they can adapt to more or less land than their ideal 30-50 acres, they could also pivot to a suckler herd model for beef or concentrate solely on the dairy. They can respond to the landscape on offer and select the breed accordingly. Born and bred in Cornwall they would like to stay close enough to regularly visit their family in Truro. For the dairy they would need a processing space and storage along with a water supply for the cattle. They aim to be responsive to the market demand with milk round, markets and even ice cream and milkshake sales all possible. The brothers have a business plan ready to go.

This opportunity would suit a landowner with an interest in dairy or cattle who is looking to diversify their farm’s offering and aiming to support a new entrant into the industry.
