Meet Angus, he has five years experience working on a biodynamic farm over 50 acres, managing a small suckler herd, a small flock of sheep, 20-30 breeding ewes, breeding pigs, goats, donkeys and 60 laying hens. He also has some experience growing fodder beet and managing the annual hay crop. The farm is part of an educational trust and all produce goes to the organisation, so while Angus has production management skills, marketing experience is lacking. In order to overcome this challenge, Angus would like to focus his own farming enterprise on small livestock such as poultry, initially for eggs and later for meat. He has an interest in agroforestry systems and would like to explore this method of farming more, possibly moving into growing crops and expanding his knowledge of arable farming in the future.

Angus and his partner are looking for an opportunity within a reasonable distance to a large town, ideally they would like to live on site or nearby. They are looking for a particular type of opportunity rather than a specific acreage but could manage up to 100 acres. They have some capital to invest in the enterprise but would require larger infrastructure and machinery to be provided as well as access to water. Angus is in the process of developing a business plan which could include education or working with volunteers, building on his experience at the educational trust. It is likely that additional part time work would be sought either on the farm or elsewhere.

This opportunity would suit a landowner with a specific opportunity around small livestock and an idea to develop a diversity of enterprises on their land.
