New Business Start Up or Share Farming Arrangement, Crediton, Devon
Meet Hen, an organic beef and sheep farmer on 100 hectares of land near Crediton, Devon. Hen would like to invite new people to her farm to live and work on the land. She is aware she is getting older and would like to reduce her workload by offering 4-8 acres to a new business enterprise or possibly coming to a share farming arrangement with her sheep enterprise. She is open to suggestion regarding the kind of business that might take place as long as the approach is regenerative and uses an organic framework so as not to threaten her 26 year organic certification. The parcel of land is south facing on loam/sandy loam soil and although there is a significant slope it can be worked with machinery and could be suitable for horticulture. There is also an opportunity for access to mature woodland and new silvopasture plantings and Hen would be open to discussion of a business proposal utilising these features. There are various traditional buildings that could be made available for storage or other use. There is also accommodation on site in the form of a two bedroom converted barn. Hen would be happy to share some machinery including tractors and workshop tools.
Hen is keen for some help with her own enterprises beyond any share farming agreement and would be interested to negotiate labour in exchange for rent. In particular she is concerned that there is someone on the land should she have to be away for any period. This would suit a landseeker who has a collaborative approach, is committed and reliable and would take an interest in the farm as a whole. The land is 20 mins drive to Crediton and 35 mins drive to Exeter, while Hen enjoys some solitude she is open to some community activity beginning on the farm.
