Mixed Family Farm looking for a Market Gardener, Sherbourne, Dorset
Mixed Family Farm looking for a Market Gardener, Sherbourne, Dorset
Meet Henry, Ellie and family who recently took over this beautiful farm. They manage cider apple orchards with a small flock of sheep and laying hens under the trees and pigs in the woodland. They are looking for a market gardener to take on 1 or more acres to produce high quality products which could be sold independently and/or through existing market routes and farm branding. The enterprise should compliment the existing activities on the farm and sit naturally within it’s wider direction: organic, regenerative mixed farming within an orchard and agroforestry system, selling premium produce and experiences. They hope to develop a community feel over time but aim to develop this slowly at first, this immediate offer is for one year minimum with a view to the long term.
There is a 1ac deer-fenced orchard plot with agroforestry spaced rows suitable for horticulture production, the woodland is currently an untapped resource and could support a small charcoal business and there is potential for smaller livestock within the orchards. The land owners are keen to share resources and create an atmosphere of support and collaboration where possible which would include a range of machinery available for use, along with water supply, electricity, toilets, kitchenette and parking and the potential for additional employment at certain times of the year if desired. There is no accommodation offered so tenants would need to live nearby.
Based next door to a thriving school community, 3 miles from the market town of Sherbourne and 7 miles from busy Yeovil, this opportunity would suit a market gardener with entrepreneurial skills who would be able to take advantage of the marketing opportunities on offer and innovate to make the most of the niches available on the farm.
