Members for Horticulture Collective, Wells, Somerset

Landowners Nicky and Jo and their first tenant Rosie have a vision of bringing together like minded growers on their beautiful land near Wells in Somerset. There are 2 acres available for new tenants as part of the 17 acre site, with the possibility of taking on an additional 1.5 / 2 acre orchard. The plot is being offered for a low rent or in-kind arrangement, it is slightly sloping, south facing, on clay loam with rabbit fencing, soon to be upgraded to deer fencing.

Rosie is establishing a perennial plant nursery on their plot and has ambitions to start a community school group garden as part of the wider collective activities. Ideally Nicky and Jo would like to find a grower whose business dovetails well with Rosie’s, where both enterprises compliment the other through the sharing of resources and community rather than compete. They are keen to see how things develop with nothing yet set in stone.

The land is a short drive from the cathedral city of Wells, providing plenty of market opportunities on the doorstep and a strong and supportive network of growers locally. Accommodation isn’t offered with the land but it is possible to live relatively close to the site in Wells or Wookey. There are two sheds on the land, available for shared use, one is a kitchen and there is a sheltered outdoor space. There are also plans to create an amenity/workshop space soon too. There are IBCs for rainwater and access to the river but no mains water supply. Nicky is open to new infrastructure being installed by tenants subject to permissions.

This is a lovely opportunity to help shape a horticulture collective from the start, working alongside growers with ecological and permaculture principles at heart.
