Market Gardening Opportunity near Selby, Yorkshire
Market Gardening Opportunity near Selby, Yorkshire
An accessible and well-located plot of land near Selby, Yorkshire, is available and excellently situated for a market gardener seeking land for a new enterprise.
The site is set within a contained parkland currently undergoing restoration, offering a peaceful, but well-connected setting. A network of nearby towns provides potential market opportunities, with Leeds, York, Doncaster, and Hull all within a 40-minute drive.
The available land intended for this opportunity is 1-5 acres in total. Due to its prominent location on the edge of the parkland and contained within the village, the landowner is keen to see the site developed in a way that engages with the local community. There is particular interest in exploring opportunities such as a farm shop and/or educational activities for young people in the future.
While the land available needs work to cultivate and establish, it is flat, well-positioned, connected to local amenities, and suitable for a market garden or related enterprises. The landowner is keen to see a successful enterprise flourish here, and could support the prospective landseeker with certain machinery and tools that they might need.
The wider parkland is currently in a Higher Level Stewardship Scheme, and the landowner is passionate about restoring the land regeneratively. There is currently a small herd of English Longhorn Cattle, and there could be an opportunity to work with them or other animals in some way within the enterprise. There is a fair amount of woodland, parts of which are undergoing restoration, and others with potential for future wellness-based activities.
Next door to the plot currently, there is a redundant but solidly structured building that was historically used as a grain dryer, which could be utilised flexibly for different purposes. A horse paddock and stable also reside next door, which are rented in the short term. Several other large sheds are present near the old grain dryer, with solid foundations, but renovations would be needed to put them into use. The landowner is interested in working in partnership with the landseeker to develop appropriate infrastructure on site.
