Market Gardening Opportunity at Oxcombe, Lincolnshire

Market Gardening Opportunity at Oxcombe, Lincolnshire

Set in an idyllic location in the Lincolnshire Wolds, Oxcombe Estate is a lively cultural hub that attracts the public to a well-established pottery and is developing an art gallery, woodcraft centre, and other creative ventures.

The farm estate is undergoing significant nature restoration projects, and is planning to start the transition to a fully organic system. Oxcombe is developing a fifty-acre traditional orchard with around 350 different fruit varieties, and is now looking for the right people to establish a market garden in a 2.5-acre plot, which has previously been cultivated.

The plot is located in a central location near the main farmyard and buildings, and next to the newly developing orchard. The land hasn’t been in recent production, and therefore requires an enthusiastic landseeker looking to start the market garden anew. The land is suitable for vegetable-growing, flower production, and fruit varieties that aren’t already grown in the orchard. Oxcombe is an established, attractive brand in the area and could support routes to market for market garden produce.

Infrastructure such as mains water is already available for the landseeker to get started, and the development of buildings or one or two polytunnels would be acceptable, subject to planning. Oxcombe hopes to work collaboratively with the grower to scope out funding opportunities for further development.

A new education centre is due to be built at Oxcombe over the summer, focused on nature, farming, and the environment. It is important that the landseeker is excited to engage with the public and would be willing to offer educational sessions in or around the market garden. This doesn’t have to mean formal training or teaching – just a passion to show what is possible in an organically-managed market garden plot.

This opportunity will require some work to get going, so the right landseeker will probably consist of multiple people, who are supported by other part-time income streams whilst the market garden develops. There could be paid opportunities on the estate to offer alternative income in the right circumstances.
