Market Garden at Land Based Learning Centre, Shaftesbury, Dorset

This Land Based Learning Centre is looking for a market gardener to take over an already established market garden plot on just under one acre of south-westerly fairly flat land. There is no organic certification on this plot but organic practices have been followed across the farm and other parts are certified. The plot has always been farmland mostly livestock grazing, it is currently bordered by stock fencing with woodland on one side and farmland going down towards the Chalk Downs and Salisbury on the other. While the soil is heavy clay they have worked on processes to grow successfully on it over the years and can provide growing plans and daily check ins along with other support.

This opportunity would suit a grower who would embrace their farm becoming a learning environment on occasion with groups of children and young people coming through links with councils, schools, alternative provision, holiday sessions and home education. This involvement could form part of an exchange in place of rent as the grower would need to allow access to the market garden to these groups, under supervision, and be able to share their experience of the land as well. There could be small paid jobs offered as part of this arrangement.

This opportunity comes with the offer of accommodation in the form of a fully functional static caravan on the land as well as a farm shop which the market garden would supply in addition to becoming a local supplier.
