Enterprise stacking opportunities in Suffolk

Wakelyns is one of the oldest, most diverse, organic agroforestry sites in Western Europe. The farm now hosts a range of rural businesses through ‘enterprise stacking’ and also run community events, courses and more.

David and Amanda are looking for people who share the farm’s values and want to do full or part time activities on the site linked to the land or the environment. That may involve exclusive use of part of the area (such as growing horticulture) but it may be something within the certified organic rotation (growing/using a particular crop), or in part of the farm (such as using produce from the short rotation willow or hazel coppice).

Wakelyns currently host businesses who are, variously, growing vegetables, juicing fruit (from fruit harvested across the whole site), weaving willow and running courses (using willow grown on part of the site), baking/cooking (using the onsite bakery/kitchen including using vegetables and wheat grown on site), running bird/nature walks (across the whole site), looking after bees (in various locations around the site), running tree walks (across the site), growing and using hemp and running a hemp festival (in agroforestry alleys within our rotation), natural weaving and dyeing (including with plants and the hemp grown on site and with a workshop on site).

David and Amanda would welcome inquiries from anyone with an idea of how to add to the diversity of enterprises at Wakelyns particularly through their collaboration and interaction with others already doing something here. More of the same is also welcome – e.g. veg growing but it must be something directly connected to the land/nature and/or what other people are doing already on site.

There are various indoor workshop/workspace options for use/sharing. Wakelyns hosts a range of community and other events and courses. People based at Wakelyns are expected to take part in community events (3 or so times a year) and have the opportunity to run courses at Wakelyns if that is relevant to their Wakelyns activity.

Living on site in own accommodation, particularly during an initial period is very possible and there are facilities in place to support this.

Step 1

Getting to Know You

Through our registration process, you’ll tell us what you’re looking for in a landmatch, share a bit about yourself, and learn more about how the programme works. Our FAQs page is a great place to find answers to many of the questions you might have along the way.Once you’ve registered, your regional coordinator will get in touch to arrange a call. This is a chance to talk through your ideas in more detail, gather the information we need, and answer any questions you have about the landmatching process.

Step 2

Support Package

Whether you’re a landseeker or a landowner, we’ll provide the tools, resources, and peer support in order to prepare you for a match and plan your next steps. Our resource library includes expert guides written by land agents and consultants, along with links to useful information and supportive organisations.Using the information we’ve gathered, we’ll work with you to create a tailored listing for our noticeboard. Landmatch England will then promote your listing through our networks and social media channels, giving you the best chance of finding the right match.

Step 3

Finding your Match

Your regional coordinator will be working behind the scenes to find the best possible match for your requirements. When they identify a potential match, they’ll help you exchange more details to see if there’s genuine potential.Next comes the introduction — this might start with a call and, if it feels right, move on to a site visit. Your regional coordinator will guide and support you through these first meetings, making sure both sides get the most out of the experience.

Step 4

Landmatch

Once both parties are ready to move forward, Landmatch England will signpost you to professionals who can help create a binding agreement. With our resource library at your disposal, you’ll have the tools to craft a solution that works for everyone involved.
You’ll continue to have access to the resource library for as long as you need them and if you ever require our landmatching services again, we’ll be here to support you.
