Landseeker FAQ’s

Find the answer to your question below or get in contact if you can’t find what you’re looking for

Do I need a formal farming education or qualifications to register?

No. Landowners will have different ideas about the type of partnership they want. Some may prefer a landseeker with formal farming education, while others may not. If you lack relevant training or experience, it’s strongly advised to gain more in your area of interest before seeking land.

Are there any age restrictions on registering?

The minimum age to register with Landmatch England is 18 years old. There is no upper age limit.

I’m looking for land but don’t want to run a business, should I still register?

No. This project is for landseekers looking to start up a farming-based business.

I have a business idea, but no experience, should I still register?

We recommend doing thorough research, writing a business plan and gaining practical experience in your chosen field before starting your business. Starting a land-based business involves financial, physical and emotional challenges and should not be taken lightly. If you have doubts, consider whether this is the right step for you now.

I want to grow flowers or produce fibre or forestry, can I apply?

We accept applications for the agroecological production of fuel, fibre, flowers and forestry, but will consider these applications on a case-by-case basis.

I’m looking to run a glamping / tourism business, should I register here

No. Food and farming should be the main priority of your business when registering with Landmatch England. We also accept applications for the agroecological production of fuel, fibre, flowers and forestry, but consider these on a case-by-case basis.

Why do I need to provide references?

Landseekers may want reassurance that they are entering a fair and trusted partnership. For landowners, inviting someone onto their land outside their family can be a big step. Providing references adds confidence and benefits everyone involved.

Is this just for new entrants into farming?

We welcome applications  from existing farming businesses looking to scale-up as well as from farm workers, contractors and those with land-based experience.
