Landmatch England FAQ’s
Have a question for us? Find our FAQs below or get in contact if you can’t find what you’re looking for
What is Landmatch England?
Landmatch England connects landowners and landseekers through a user-friendly registration and search process, making it easier to find, share and manage land for food and farming, as well as fuel; fibre and woodland, with practical support and guidance.
Who has developed Landmatch England?
Landmatch England has been developed by the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Network UK, Shared Assets, Landworkers’ Alliance, Tamar Grow Local and The Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture. The first four are all members of the Landmatch England Steering Group. Collectively, we are dedicated to strengthening local initiatives and businesses to create a resilient local food ecosystem.
The Steering Group is also being supported by Pathways to Land, Bristol Food Producers and LESS (promoting sustainable living) to deliver this service.
How does Landmatch England support landowners and landseekers?
Landmatch England is a space where food and farming landseekers can discover opportunities, and landowners can connect with people looking for land. Landmatch England helps landowners and landseekers save time by creating suitable matches and providing the network and resources to make the process simple and supportive.
Can I register from anywhere in England?
Yes, we can support you in finding you a match from wherever you register in England, although we have extra regional support available in the North-West and South-West.
What extra support is available in the NW and SW of England?
We have been kindly funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to offer more localised support in the South-West and North-West of England. In these areas you’ll find us out and about at events, offering peer-to-peer networks and more tailored support and signposting to make the most of your landmatch journey.
Do you offer legal advice?
We cannot provide legal advice. Everyone should seek independent advice when taking on land or forming a partnership. We can, however, point you to trusted organisations and advisors who can help.
Do you have a standard tenancy agreement I can use?
No. Leases and tenancy agreements depend on location and circumstances, so generic documents won’t work. Seek legal advice or guidance from a professional land agent to ensure your agreements are correct.
What happens if communications break down between a landmatch?
Good communication and a clear agreement or lease are key to a strong relationship from the start. You can find our communications guide on the website.
Is there a cost to register or to find a successful match through the project?
We ask for a contribution towards our costs so that we can continue the project for as long as possible and to support as many people as we can. Our sliding-scale fees make registration inclusive and help us support those facing further barriers to entering food and farming.
What happens after I have registered?
Once we receive your form, we’ll be in touch to arrange a telephone or zoom call to confirm and gather any extra details for your listing and to see how we can further support you through the Landmatch process. If a potential match comes up, we’ll ask your permission before sharing your contact details.
How long will a match take?
We can’t guarantee matches or set exact timescales, as finding the right fit can take a while. Giving accurate information helps us connect you with the most suitable opportunities.
What are the next steps if a potential match is found?
We’ll contact both parties to share a summary of the landseeker’s plans or the land offer and check if they’d like to meet on an informal Zoom call. Landmatch England will help facilitate the call. If it goes well, an in-person meeting can be arranged.
Will my contact details and land information be published on the internet?
Your personal contact details will not be published on the internet. Any information about your land or personal situation will only be shared with your consent.
How long will you keep my information for?
We will keep your information for the duration of the project unless you contact us to remove your information from Landmatch England records.
What if I want to remove my offer, or information from the landmatch?
We’re happy to remove your offer or information at any time. Please contact us at info@landmatchengland.org.uk to remove your information.
How will I know if the Landmatch England project comes to an end?
If the project ends, we will contact everyone registered with Landmatch England to inform them and confirm the removal of their information.
Why do you ask for personal demographic information when I register?
We collect demographic information to understand the diversity, needs and challenges of farming communities. Because inclusivity and fairness are central to agroecology, this data helps us see who’s involved and whether everyone is being represented and supported. It also helps us shape Landmatch England to better serve our community.
Can you help me buy or sell land?
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to assist with the buying or selling of land. We are not able to advertise land for sale or provide advice regarding land sale activities.
